How to Maintain Your Eyebrows

Eyebrows are the single most face-framing feature. Brow grooming and maintenance is essential for a clean, neat, polished, approachable and professional look. No matter how great your makeup looks, if your brows have overgrowth or look unruly or unkempt, you simply will not look polished or put together. To maintain your brows in between your regular visits to a professional brow technician, there are a few tools you will need and some important steps to take to keep your look fresh and polished.

The only tools you will need to maintain your brows in between your regular beauty appointments are a spiral brow brush, shaping scissors, tweezers and a brow pencil, wax or powder to fill in sparse areas. You will first want to use your spiral brush to sweep your brows in an upward motion. Lightly trim the excess hairs with your shaping scissors. It is important to trim very slowly and carefully when cutting. You can always cut more off the ends. If you cut them too short, you may compromise the look and shape of your brows. You will want to repeat this process by brushing your brows down and carefully trimming the longer hairs.

Once you brush your brows back into place, you can use your tweezers to pluck any stray hairs directly below the brow bone. It is important to always pluck stray hairs in the direction of growth. Then, proceed by plucking any stray hairs between your brows. Once you have cleaned up any overgrowth, you can fill in sparse areas or gaps with your brow powder, wax or pencil. You can also utilize any combination of these three fillers for a more natural look. Finish off your brows with a powder or cream highlighter placed directly under the brow bone. This will give the illusion of light and lift to your overall eye area. If you happen to pluck too many hairs or alter the natural shape of your brows during your maintenance, it is best to stop the process and await your next appointment with your brow technician. It will take about a month for your brows to fill back in, and it will be relatively easy for your technician to rectify the mistake.
